Cool

1st use Sound Recorder to chop up your ringtone
2nd use Dbpoweramp to convert the ringtone to 8000hz, 8 bit, mono
3rd save it as a WAV file- then load it

I have made a couple ringtones using that method, but they both have a loud hissing sound. Is there something I can adjust to clean the sound up?

That would be the WRONG way to do it!!!

The way I make all of mine with no problem is this- only need to add one step.

This is personally how I do it and I have no problems ever so do it how you want but this is proven to work.
1. Convert audio file into wav file using dbpoweramp using the before mentioned settings
2. chop your tune to what ever you want
3. save new file as .wav file
4. The most important step - RECONVERT the saved file again using dbpoweramp same settings.-If you forget this step you will never get a home made ringer to work-
5. Load er up!!!!!!

6. DONE!!!!

I have done everything that I read on this site and all is good until I try to download the ringtone. I have been using Audacity to chop up the song and save to wav file. I followed the prev instructions and all is gravy then it tells me to check my connection and baud rate. I checked everything and its as it should be. Can you help?????

as long as the wav file have the proper setting as mentioned b4 and the file name isnt longer than (i think) 10-12 letters including .wav=4 then you should be ok.
