870 ringtones

okay bear with me cause i'm new buti just bought the 870 with the assumption that after i get the mp3's to my memory card i could set them as a ringtone but i was wrong. they only play in the audio player. I need to know what i have to do to either convert my mp3's to ringtone format or somehow be able to upload mp3's into my phone to be used as ringtones. if anyone could help me it would be appreciated.

you can use dbpoweramp to convert them to wav format

and you need webjal or myjal to upload to your phone

did you format your memory card before loading songs??

are the title of the songs fairly short????

how did you transfer the music to the card??

I have two memory cards for my 870 and have never had any issues yet.

Tiburone916: MUSIC PLAYER and MP3s................

NJAGZ is right about your music player... but I suggest NOT formatting your card unless you're having issues.

The biggest thing I have seen is: You need to make sure that your song titles for your MP3's and WAVs are short... (something like 11 or 12 characters INCLUDING the .WAV or .MP3...) I had the same problem with my i870 and that was the fix. It didn't matter where I loaded the songs onto the card or whether I placed the songs into the assigned folders. (music, video, etc) When the player was started, it found the songs automatically. Good luck.

As for sterling3371: RINGTONES.........

Its back to the basics for you. Just like the i860, 830, 730 and so on... You'll have to create or download your ringtones just like you may have done before.

If you are creating, saving to .wav files will probably give you the best luck saving them to a format Mono, 8,000hz, 8 bit sample rate, but for mp3s you will have to step down your bitrate to a much lower sample rate than original (change to 32kb/s, 8000hz, mono) and your i870 should accept them.
Two years ago, before the i870, I made many mp3 ringers with my i860 with no problems.

The same thing applies for ringtones and TITLES as does for putting normal songs on your music player. Make sure your titles are SHORT! ONLY 11 or 12 characters including the file extension!

The down side??? Not that great sound you were looking for with your original songs from the memory card and your phone only rings for about 15 seconds before going to voicemail assuming you have it - so you only need to edit about 15 seconds of the song you want. (Best done in a music editor such as nero wave editor or cool edit pro... or even dbpoweramp) If you need to know exact details for your wav/mp3 sample rates and storage information, try searching the forums. I'm sure you'll find what you need. Once you've edited the song you want... its a done deal. Upload the shortened (also short-titled) song to your phone with Webjal.
Best of luck.
