it is not going to come out. they are looking to merge the systems by jan 06, the new mototorola handsets that are probably already in the design phase will be both tdma and cdma capable. the tecnology is there samsung, motorola, nokia have all designed phones that can be used on different types of networks. I highly doubt that nextel will drop millions of dollars to motorola in production costs for a phone that will be garbage in 6 months. They are focusing on getting inter-network handsets out intime for the merger. further more nextel execs arent stupid, they realize that the i930 has already missed the mark lacking what many other windows based phone already have. I think they should scrap the i930 and focus on developing a windows device you can use featuring bluetooth, wi-fi, ev-do, etc...but who knows they are releasing the i605, have you seen this ebomination, it looks like an uglier green version of the i85 with a color screen, god help us if this is what is in store for the future of nextel.

-from phone scoop...

"But with all of these delays, some features of the phone - like the mere VGA camera and lack of Bluetooth - are making the phone look outdated by now. Which is why a Motorola representative admitted it's likely that the i930 will simply be scrapped in favor of a new model that has a megapixel camera and Bluetooth. Unfortunately, that would mean an even longer wait for an iDEN smartphone..."

1. msn
2. internet explorer
3. more memory for it like the slot thing

any i really dont see the difference between it and the i860
i love my i860 and i think im gonna stay with that

I don't think that they are going to release the i930. The Nextel employees that I have spoken with said that it wouldn't be a wise idea because the phones that are coming out because of the Nextel/Sprint merger are going to be so much better.

even nextel employees dont know what will happen because of the merger because it is still not final. the shareholders have not even voted yet. the phone is obviously developed, accessories are developed, and the iden network will not go down for at least 3 years after the merger based on nextel's agreement with motorola (see press releases for moto iden). i believe the unit will come out, and will sell like mad. and as much as i dread it, i will have to QA the calls that come from people not reading their user guides and breaking their phones.

The phone is coming out but not until the second half of 2005. They are bringing out a new camera phone that will be coming out Q2 of 2005 which is a pretty nice looking phone. It would remind you of a Verizon LG shape phone and the caller id screen is back on top.

You will see the following phones
I850 - Camera Phone that is coming out Q2 of 2005
I760 - The same as the I850 with no camera coming out Q2 of 2005
There will also be an I530 with a caller id screen on the front. I am not sure what the number of the phone was I am thinking I560 but I dont remember exactly.
You will also see the I605 that everyone heard of that is coming out sometime in the Q2 or Q3

The phones are nice I saw them in a power point presentation to bad I couldnt get my hands on it or I would show everyone it.

Also all new phones will have Direct Talk in them which means that you can direct connect up a number of people at one time. You will store a name in your phone book for a group and put in peoples direct connect number and you can talk to everyone at once. You will see this in the I830 Release 2 along with all the other new phones. These features will require a new 128k sim card that all the new phones are going to come with from now on.

Thanks

Actually, Direct Talk is a feature which uses, I believe, the FRS (family radio service) in order for you to talk to another user with a direct talk compatible phone when there is no cell service. This is a kind of off the network walkie-talkie which should be good for a distance of a couple of miles depending on obstructions. What you were referring to were talkgroups and they have been available for some time. You just have to pay a little for the capability and setup.
