Question about the i870, is this able to work on both Sprint/Nextel Network like the i930? or is the i870 just like the i860 & older models, for the Nextel Network only?

also, reading the comments about the i930 not supporting SDIO and/or not having built-in Bluetooth compliance are grounds for harsh criticism and outrage.
What is SDIO?

Thanks.

Secure Digital Input/Output
A standard for that accessory devices that extends the functionality of devices with SD card slots.

correction, the i870 will only work on the nextel network, the i930 will only work on nextel's network with international GSM capabilities/NO SPRINT CDMA technology in either.|

Hey Ells04, really appreciate your help & super quick responses.

I went ahead & bought an I930 off Ebay, for $499 total. Going to play with it a bit & if I don't like, I could sell it for more to someone else.

My question is, will this phone, along with the i870's & older phones still work when the Sprint/Nextel Networks finally fully merge their services?

A buddy says he's holding off on getting a Nextel until one that works on both Networks is released, b/c he's heard these current Nextel phones won't work once both Networks merge their services sometime in the new yr.

Thanks.

Hey guys, new member. I'm an indirect dealer and I learn more here than I do from nextel! From the info I have, Nextel has a contract with IDEN until 2009 and will work on IDEN until 2009. Then Nextel will be switched to CDMA in 2010. So, with what I know, don't worry about the phones working on both networks.

Still no i870's in FDT. I have also heard rumors that their is still problems with the i930. It was in FDT for about 1/2 a day, then it was gone and has been gone for over a week(heard this from my district manager)

The services will not actually merge the Network will be something that is not even in use yet. Both Sprint and Nextel(pre-merger) bought a signifigant amount of bandwidth of a new frequency and are currently testing a new technology designed by Samsung, among with many other highspeed technologies. They are supposedly keeping the CDMA bandwidth and adding this new tech for a better service. And i have also seen that the iDEN Network has been sold to the Department of Defense.|

Nextel made a contract with Motorola to make iDEN phones until 2010.
As for the iDEN/CDMA phone should be out within a year.|

Kool Ells04, I870 looks like a great phone.

Question, while browsing through the www.broadbandreports.com site, I came across this bit of news:

http://www.dslreports.com/shownews/68983

Code:
Sprint Nextel Prepares Full Launch of EV-DO
First 'over-the-air' music downloads too

Posted on 2005-10-30 11:47:14

Sprint Nextel, the newly merged cell phone company,
has planned a series of major announcements for Monday morning.
The word is that they will announce a full-scale launch
of their EV-DO high-speed wireless network, a service
dubbed "Power Vision," which will include the first
over-the-air music download store in the United States.
In advance of the announcement, Sprint Nextel distributed
review units of a new Samsung cell phone equipped with EV-DO,
it featured a menu icon for music that leads to a service
named Sprint Music Store which offers downloads for $2.50 per song.
The purchase entitles a user to download a copy of
the same song to a computer as well.
Will any of the current phones (I930,870,860,etc..) be able to support EV-DO now or through possible firmware upgrades in the future?

unfortunately these are not ev-do, the 870 does have WiDEN which is a faster data than current iDEN speeds(up to 4 times faster).|
